Faculty of Philosophy

The Faculty of Philosophy has existed since 1954, pre-dating the founding of the University itself. A leading centre of study for the languages and cultures of Vojvodina — Hungarian, Romanian, Ruthenian, Serbian, Slovak — the Faculty also offers degrees in English, French, German, Russian, Spanish and Italian. Students can take courses in other languages as well: Chinese, Czech, Korean, Macedonian, Polish, Portuguese, Slovene, Turkish, and Ukrainian. Besides languages, the Faculty offers degrees in communication studies and public relations, cultural studies, history, pedagogy, philosophy, psychology, social work and sociology. The youngest department at the Faculty is the Department of Italian and Ibero-American Studies, which opened in 2022 to high demand. Each year on the first of December, the Faculty celebrates the anniversary of its founding with an international and interdisciplinary event: in odd years, Encounter of Cultures; in even years, Contexts, a conference for doctoral students. These events bring together some 200 researchers in the humanities and social sciences for a day of intellectual debate, cultural exchange and networking. This day also brings the annual Faculty Award for Best Young Researcher or Doctoral Student.

The Faculty of Philosophy has a rich history of hosting the International Summer School of Serbian Language, Culture, and History. Its goal is to popularize and extend the study of the Serbian language, while also encouraging a broader understanding of Serbian literature, culture, and history worldwide.
